‘Tattie man’ will share knowledge

THE next meeting of the West Lothian History and Amenity Society will be on Wednesday, November 18 at 7.30pm in St Joseph’s Primary School, Preston Road, Linlithgow.

The guest speaker will be John Marshall.

The humble tattie will have a new significance after hearing the history of its development and its social significance from this well respected authority, the “tattie man”.

The tattie fed the poor giving them a cheap source of energy enabling them to survive on their meagre wages.

To the practical farmer it was an essential part of crop rotation and to the scientific it was the opportunity to use their knowledge of genetics to develop new strains.
