West Lothian woman raises £3k for cancer charity in memory of late husband

A WEST Lothian woman helped raise over £3000 for a cancer charity in memory of her husband.

Irene Wilmot from Whitburn, with help from her family and friends, held a fundraising day at the Hilcroft Hotel on Sunday November 8.

A massive £3077 was raised on the day to help Macmillan Cancer Support to fund their local services in West Lothian. The event was held in memory of Irene’s husband William Wilmot who sadly lost his fight with cancer two years ago.

William received help from Macmillan Cancer Support when the family needed it most so Irene and her family decided to organise this event to help other local families.

Irene said: “I couldn’t believe the wonderful support we received on the day. The Hilcroft Hotel very kindly provided the venue along with refreshments free of charge, and many companies and individuals donated raffle prizes.

“I would like to thank everyone for their generosity and to all of those who came along on Sunday and contributed to help make it such a special day.”

Irene is pictured handing over the cheque to Macmillan Fundraising Manager Fiona Leitch.

Fiona said: “Irene and her family put so much work in to organising the day and I would like to thank them for all their support.

“The money they have raised will make a real difference to the lives of local people living with cancer and the support they received only goes to show how well thought of William was in the local community.”

Plans are already underway for the event to take place again next year when Irene plans to raise even more funds for Macmillan.
