TRIBUTES were paid this week to a pensioner who “always put others first.”
Alex Fairley died after his car was involved in an accident on the A803 Polmont to Linlithgow Road on Saturday.
Alex (68), from Armadale, was taken to Stirling Royal Infirmary for treatment but died the next day.
His son David (40) said his dad was a well known face around Armadale and was loved by everyone he knew.
He said he dedicated his time as a volunteer to the St Andrew’s Ambulance Association Bathgate Corps and always sought to help others.
Born and raised in Westrigg, Alex married Ann and had three children, Elizabeth-Ann, Sandra and David. Sadly only David survives.
After his wife died in 2002 Alex later met partner Harriet and he became a much loved member of another family.
Before retiring he worked in the steel foundries, brick works and pits around West Lothian.
David told the Courier this week: “A great deal of his life was dedicated to St Andrew’s Ambulance Corps.
“He was a well respected member of the community and was involved in many institutions in West Lothian.
“He was a very sociable man and loved being with friends and family.
“There was always an air of dignity about him, despite the many losses he suffered, even in periods of bereavement and ill health he remained dignified.
“He always put other people’s health and safety first and his last words to me were of concern for everyone else who had been in the accident.”
He added: “As a father and son I feel blessed by being able to remain together to the very end.”
