Taxi office licensing scheme is introduced

A NEW licensing scheme for taxi and private hire car booking offices with four or more cars was approved this week.

Councillor Robert De Bold, who was on the council executive committee which agreed the scheme, explained: “Mandatory conditions are set down in the 2009 Order, including a requirement that records be maintained of all accepted books.

“The Taxi Examination Centre will be responsible for the enforcement of the new legislation and we will work in partnership with them and neighbouring councils on this issue.”

The introduction of the scheme is part of the licensing scheme for Taxi and Private Hire Car Booking Offices under the Civic Government (Scotland) Act 1982.

In West Lothian, there are understood to be around 10 premises which need to be licensed.
