Thugs beat Livingston man with baseball bat

DETECTIVES are calling for help to trace thugs who launched a brutal attack on a man in Livingston.

The 31-year-old had visited local shops and was walking through the underpass between Morrisons supermarket and Fells Rigg in Carmondean, when he challenged a group of youths who were causing a disturbance.

The yobs confronted him and two of them beat him with a baseball bat and golf club.

The thugs were then spotted running away from the scene, leaving their victim unconscious.

The man was taken to St John’s Hospital where he was given treatment for a broken arm and severe bruising.

Now police are appealing for information on the attack which happened sometime between 7pm and 7.30pm.

A police spokesman said it’s vital that anyone with information on the attack should contact them

He said: “This was a violent and sustained attack on an innocent member of the public, and it is clear from their actions that those responsible are callous individuals who think little of inflicting such severe injuries on an innocent member of the public.

“We are appealing for any information that can assist us in identifying those responsible.

“Anyone who was in the area of Fells Rigg between 7pm and 7.30pm last night, who either witnessed the assault or saw a group of young males in the area, should contact police immediately.

“Anyone else who has any other information that can help us in identifying those responsible for this attack should also get in touch.”

Anyone with any information should contact Lothian and Borders Police on 0131 311 3131, or Crimestoppers in confidence and complete anonymity on 0800 555 111.
