Broxburn Academy pupils join `cold callers’ campaign

PUPILS at a West Lothian school have joined a scheme to help fight crime.

Broxburn Academy’s XL class invited older people to a Christmas lunch and treated them to a combination of musical entertainment from the school band and a community safety message, which focussed on the dangers of ‘cold calling’.

The Prince’s Trust ‘XL project’ is a team-based programme of personal development for students in their last two years of compulsory schooling.

Representatives from the council’s Trading Standards and Lothian and Borders Police attended the lunch, which went down a treat with those who attended.

The XL group also produced a Christmas card and a sticker to go on the inside of their doors to remind older people about the threat of doorstop crime.

Executive councillor for services for the community, Frank Anderson said he was pleased by the event’s success and praised the efforts of the pupils.
