West Lothian College’s Barcelona visit

STUDENTS took an international trip to learn some hairdressing short-cuts.

Hairdressing and beauty therapy students from West Lothian College travelled to Barcelona for a four-day trip to learn from some of Spain’s top hairdressing and beauty suppliers.

Accompanied by their lecturers, 24 students from HNC/D Beauty Therapy, HNC Complementary Therapy and level three hairdressing courses, travelled to the Catalonian capital at the beginning of the month.

After sampling some of the city’s breathtaking sights, hairdressing students visited the Barcelona studios of one of the world’s largest hairdressing suppliers, while beauty therapy and complementary therapy students paid a visit to the historic ‘Arabic Baths’, learning about the different products and methods the Spanish therapists use.

After receiving a guided tour around the supplier’s state-of-the-art facility, hairdressing students were then escorted to the studio’s conferencing room.

Here students took part in a seminar discussing hair colour and the products used by the company, led by special guest speaker and top project technician, Christine Hillier-Smith.

Claire Glen, Head of West Lothian College’s Creative Centre said: “These types of residential trips are invaluable experiences for our students.

“Not only do students learn more about the products that they use on clients, they also learn about the various methods others apply to hairdressing and beauty in different countries from industry leaders.

“These visits are also excellent team building exercises and give our students the opportunity to experience their trade in an alternative culture.”
