Livi Arts Association’s 40th birthday

IT is an exciting time for Livingston Art Association as they prepare to celebrate their 40th anniversary.

And to celebrate the important milestone the group are making their final preparation for their impending 40th annual exhibition.

The exhibition takes place in the exhibition space at Howden Park Centre, Livingston, and runs from Saturday, May 29 to Sunday, June 20.

The exhibition will be open between 10am and 9pm daily except Sunday when it will close at 5pm.

Visitors to the exhibition will be able to view and buy some superb pieces of art.

One of LAA’s exhibitors and longest serving committee members, Doreen Knight, hopes that people will not miss the opportunity to attend the exhibition – especially as it is such an anniversary milestone for the group .

Doreen said: “As well as the high quality and diversity of the paintings on display, I am especially looking forward to the unique selection of pottery which will be exhibited.

“All our members have worked very hard and produced some exceptional work.”

It is an important year for LAA who were founded in 1970 by members meeting in each other’s homes.

In 1972 they were offered space in the stables at Howden which were refurbished for them and returned there to the new studio last year after Howden Park Centre underwent an extensive development.

The classes are held there by kind permission of West Lothian Council who do not charge for the use of the space.

Tutor, Janice Wilson, who takes three of the classes, is very proud of the standard of work which is to be exhibited.

She added: “This has been an exciting year for the club returning to Howden Park Centre. We are all very happy to be back in our lovely new surroundings.

“Classes have been well attended and visitors are in for a real treat with the excellent variety and standard of work.”

LAA are always keen to accept new members and anyone wishing to find out more about classes or the Exhibition can email LAA on liviartassoc@msn.com or visit the website livingston-art-assoc.org.uk.
