A DAD-OF-TWO who has beaten cancer nine times completed a gruelling 16-hours of golf in one day to raise funds for charity.
Brave Lawrence Stewart had an operation to remove half of his liver and part of his stomach just months ago.
Lawrence, who was first diagnosed with cancer in 1991 when he was aged just 14, has had tumours in his brain, lungs, stomach and liver over the last 19 years.
But despite this the remarkable Bathgate man walked 20 miles as he played four rounds of golf to raise money for Macmillan Cancer Support.
Lawrence, who lost two stones in the month after his operation, and his 11 friends are now on target to raise a fantastic £10,000 after they took on the Longest Day Golf challenge on June 24. It is the second year in a row the 32-year-old has taken part in the event and raised a similar amount last year.
The team started off at Bathgate Golf Course in the early hours of the morning before heading to Pumpherston, Ratho and finishing off at Dalmahoy.
The friends, all Hibernian supporters, also held a fundraising breakfast in the Hibs Supporters’ Club with guest speakers including Tam Cowan, Joe Camay and ex-Motherwell and Morton player John Gahagan.
The event was a great success and raised nearly £4000 towards their target.
Lawrence and the rest of the team are still collecting towards their total and anyone who would like make a donation should visit: http://www.justgiving.com/lawrencestewart-hibsnet.
