Jail for man who ran out of chances

A WEST Lothian man has been jailed after finally running out of chances.

Ian Angus had been placed on community service for a variety of offences including shoplifting, breach of the peace and breaching bail conditions.

The 22-year-old was also placed on probation last September after police caught him wandering the streets of Livingston with a kitchen knife in his pocket.

Last week at Livingston Sheriff Court Angus, whose address was given as Deanswood Park, Livingston, admitted breaching both his community service and probation orders.

The court heard Angus had previously breached his community service order and on that occasion had been given more hours of unpaid work to do as a punishment.

His solicitor, Raymond McMenamin, told the court his client had simply failed in his application to the orders.

Mr McMenamin added.: “I have been asked to say that if he got one more chance then he would apply himself the best he could to the orders although I appreciate this is not borne out by his record.”

Jailing him for 140 days for the breach of community service Sheriff Donald Muirhead said: “I gave you the chance of community service and you breached it. I gave you more hours and then you breached it again.

“In all the circumstances I think only a custodial sentence is appropriate.”

Angus was handed another 80 day jail term for breaching his probation order by Sheriff Grahame Fleming.
