Man caught with cocaine fined

A MAN who was caught with a bag of cocaine by police officers was landed with a fine when he appeared at   court.

The sheriff court was told that police officers found the class A drug on Kevin Thom, (23), when they searched him after he was arrested following an assault outside Grand Central nightclub in Carmondean on January 10 this year.

Police experts said they valued the drug at around £18.

Last week at Livingston Sheriff Court Thom, whose address was given as Fergus Avenue, Livingston, pled guilty to being in possession of the class A drug.

His solicitor, Ian Smith, told the court that his client had bought the cocaine that night to try it but said that he hadn’t taken it since.

Mr Smith told the sheriff court: “He does accept that this is a serious matter and readily accepts he should not have become involved.”

Passing sentence, Sheriff Donald Muirhead fined Thom £100 for the offence.
