A YOUNG mum whose baby was born with abnormal arms is raising money so other parents can get the support she did.
Stephanie Tennant’s son Daniel was born with underdeveloped arms. She says the help she received from REACH, the Association for Children with Upper Limb Deficiency, has been invaluable.
Daniel, now seven months, was given the help he needed and 23-year-old Stephanie received support from the charity, who also put her in touch with other parents in the same situation.
Now Stephanie has organised a masquerade ball in aid of REACH at the Cairn Hotel in Bathgate on Saturday, September 4.
Stephanie, from Bathgate, explained: “I chose the charity because when my son was born last December it became apparent that he was missing his forearm on his left side and his right side had a short forearm, with a small hand and only three fingers.
“This was a shock to my family and me but the hospital informed me about REACH.
“The charity has offered me so much support and in the future will help Daniel understand he is normal and just like every other child but just needs a little extra help and support.”
Stephanie said the charity not only keeps parents informed and gives them information about their child’s condition but also organises social events so mums and dads can speak to others in the same situation.
She said: “The charity provides support to parents and their children and they often organised days out or family weekends for all the members.
“It’s been great to be able to speak to other people who are in the same boat as you and some of the outings they organise are great for the children as well.”
