A MAN who was caught driving while more than twice the legal drink drive limit has been fined.
Dean Hildersley was stopped by police while he was driving in East Main Street, Broxburn, on March 17.
The 21-year-old driver was given a roadside breath test and gave a reading of 85 micrograms of alcohol per 100 millilitres of breath — over twice the legal limit of 35mg per 100ml.
Last week at Livingston Sheriff Court, Hildersley, whose address was given as Broompark View, East Calder, pled guilty to drink driving.
His solicitor told the court Hildersley had been told he would lose his job as a baggage handler at Edinburgh Airport because of the offence.
He added: “He does not have a good reason for driving but is extremely apologetic. He regrets his behaviour very much.
“Otherwise he appears to be a fairly mature and hard working young man.”
Fining Hildersley £400 and banning him from the roads for 18 months, Sheriff Graeme Warner said it had been “quite a high reading.”
Sheriff Warner added: “I do not think the drink drive rehabiliation scheme would be appropriate. Most of us find that if we drink until we are insensible it is not a good idea to drive.”
