AS exam results were delivered to homes across West Lothian, some teenagers had special cause for celebration.
A few hard-working students in the county scooped top marks in all their subjects in their Standard Grade and Higher exams.
Among them was Bathgate Academy pupil, Duncan Ewing.
The 16-year-old from Torphichen, proved that all his weeks of study had paid off when he got four Highers in physics, chemistry, biology and computing and one Advance Higher in maths – all at Grade A.
However, Duncan is modest about his achievements and the work he did to get his grades.
He said: “I worked quite hard, but I haven’t checked with all my friends yet to see if any of them have got five As.”
Duncan now plans to go back to school for sixth year, however, he is planning to pack lots more work in before he leaves Bathgate Academy.
“I’m going to do Advance Highers in biology, chemistry and physics, mainly because these are the subjects I’m most interested in,” said Duncan.
However, he has yet to decide on a university course and said he will make his mind up over the coming weeks.
Duncan added: “I’m thinking of either doing physics or mechanical engineering at university, but I’ve got a bit of time to decide because I don’t need to apply for university until October.
“I think I would like to go to Edinburgh University, but I’m also thinking of applying for St Andrew’s or maybe Cambridge.”
