Football festival to raise awareness of Huntingdon’s Disease

WEST Lothian businesses and officials from football teams are being asked to support a special inter-schools football festival to raise awareness and funds for families dealing with Huntington’s Disease.

It is hoped that 10 teams of P7 pupils from across West Lothian will take part in the seven-a-side football festival, which is planned to take place on October 8 at Bathgate Academy.

Event organiser Annie Mackenzie, whose sister suffers with the condition, explained: “The event is being held to help raise awareness and much needed funds for families dealing with Huntington’s disease.

“We are desperately looking for support to get the project underway – some local businesses are already providing support in kind and we could do with more.

“We are looking for businesses across West Lothian to offer help by, for example, providing refreshments on the day, prizes for the raffle and donations for the charity.

“The Scottish Football Association are helping us to set up the tournament and have asked Hearts, Hibs and Livingston Football Clubs if they can send players to present medals and support youth football.

“We will be providing certificates and medals to every child and a trophy will be presented to the best team.”
