Man who sent indecent texts to teen put on sex offenders register

A 60-year-old man who sent indecent texts to a 14-year-old girl has been placed on the sex offenders register.

William Livingstone sent the texts to the teenager in July last year Livingston Sheriff Court was told last week.

Livingstone, whose address was given as Falcon Brae, Livingston, pled guilty to sending the grossly offensive or indecent messages to his victim when he appeared at the sheriff court.

His solicitor, Peter Mullin, said his client had pled guilty at the trial diet.

Mr Mullin added: “There were two reports prepared on Livingstone and the ultimate recommendation was a probation order.

“He is certainly not fit for community service.

“A custodial sentence would far more odious for him than it would be for a younger fitter person.

“He did not accept some of the conditions of the report but he is fully committed to his plea of guilty and fully accepts his guilt.”

The solicitor asked that his client be given a short period on the sex offenders register due to the “limited sexual element” of the offence.

However, Sheriff Ian Anderson handed Livingstone a three year probation order and placed him on the register for the same period.
