Developer has plans for 200 new homes in Armadale

A DEVELOPER is consulting about building 200 new homes in Armadale.

Housebuilder Taylor Wimpey hope to get planning permission from West Lothian Council to construct the homes on a 21.73 acre site at Colinshiel.

This week the company hosted a public exhibition of proposals for the development of land at the back of Birkdale Park and Heatherfield Nursing Home.

The site is already identified for housing within the West Lothian Local Plan.

The national housebuilder held an exhibition where they encouraged members of the public to share their views and give feedback before they prepare a detailed planning application to West Lothian Council.

The proposals for up to 200 homes include a mix of two bedroom terraced, two and three bedroom semi detached homes, as well as three and four bedroom detached homes from the company’s new Scotland range of homes.

The plans from the company also include plans for associated infrastructure including an access road from the A89 that will be built just before Heatherfield Nursing Home as you travel into Armadale from Bathgate.

The company said feedback from visitors to the exhibition held within Armadale Community Centre had been overwhelmingly positive.

A spokesperson for the company said that their proposals represented a significant commitment to the Armadale area by Taylor Wimpey.

Nicola Reid, Land Manager for Taylor Wimpey East Scotland added: “We’ve been delighted by the numbers of local people showing an interest in the proposals.

“Overall their comments have been in favour of the development.

“Taylor Wimpey will now review all the feedback that’s been received in order to submit a detailed planning application to West Lothian Council which we intend to do as soon as possible.”

The company plans to meet with Armadale Community Council and hopes to submit a planning application in May.

If they get approval Taylor Wimpey says they want to start work on the site in the first quarter of 2012.

Anyone wishing to make comments on the proposals prior to the submission of a planning application can e-mail Nicola at colinshielconsultation@taylorwimpet.com. The deadline for comments is January 25.
