Susan is Top Scot
SUSAN Boyle’s popularity shows no signs of slipping after she was voted Scot of the Year 2010 by fans.
The star, who shot to fame on TV’s Britain’s Got Talent, took a phenomenal 95 per cent of the public vote.
And as if that wasn’t enough to give the singer a great start to the New Year, Susan was also this week named as her record company’s biggest selling artiste.
The 49-year-old is Sony’s highest-selling international entertainer and the company presented her with a disc to mark her achievement.
The star has sold 14 million albums in the past 14 months.
Her first album, ‘I Dreamed a Dream’, was released on November 23, 2009, and became Amazon’s best-selling album in pre-sales.
She released ‘The Gift’ in November 2010 and quickly became only one of three artistes to top both the UK and US album charts twice in the same year.
She said: “Words can’t describe how happy I am.
“I’ve loved every minute and I can’t wait to get back in to the studio again and for all the other exciting projects in 2011.”
Susan was named Scot of the Year on Tuesday by the charity ScotsCare to mark Burns Day.
Film star Ewan McGregor and Colin Montgomery, captain of the Ryder Cup team also got votes.
ScotsCare chief executive Willie Docherty said: “Susan is a very deserving winner and I am sure Rabbie would be very proud of her achievement in securing a second number one album on both sides of the Atlantic.”
Previous winners of the annual vote include Gordon Brown and Chris Hoy with Gerard Butler just beating Susan to the title in 2009.
