A WEST Lothian man collapsed and died last weekend after seeing a car engulfed in flames outside his house.
Robert Weir (69) suffered a fatal heart attack after coming out of his home to find his neighbour’s car on fire.
Police officers and Lothian and Borders Fire and Rescue Service were called out to the scene of the incident in Woodmuir Road in Breich on Sunday evening, just before 9pm.
Firefighters attempted to assist Mr Weir using chest compressions and a defibrillator until ambulance crews arrived but officials say he sadly died at the scene.
The vehicle had belonged to Jamie Bishop, and had allegedly been used as a getaway car for the murderers of Nattalie Muir who was attacked and killed in Whitburn last December.
Friends left tributes to Robert, who lived alone, after his tragic death on Sunday.
One message left at the scene read: “A fine example of a gentleman. A true Breich legend. Missed by all.”
Another said: “In memory of Robert. We’ll miss you.”
Another emotional tribute said: “You were a gentleman. Hope you are now walking in heaven. Rest in peace.”
A police spokesperson told the Courier this week: “A 69-year-old man was taken to St John's Hospital after suffering a heart attack at the scene of the incident but subsequently died.
