Danny Griffin admits title glory is in sight for Livingston

DANNY GRIFFIN reckons Livingston have taken a huge stride towards winning the Third Division title with championship glory firmly now in their own hands.

The Lions dumped title rivals East Stirlingshire to extend their lead to seven points which could become ten if they can win their game in hand.

And Griffin admits things are looking good for the West Lothian club.

He said: “There are a lot of happy guys in our changing room as beating East Stirlingshire again means we’ve taken a huge step but we’ve got another hard game on Saturday when we head up to Elgin.

“The games are coming thick and fast now and they’ll all be big games but there will be none as big as the win over our main league rivals which we managed.

“It is a nice feeling to be seven points ahead and, as I’ve always said, it is good to have the points on the board and have everyone else playing catch-up to us which means it is only us who can throw it away.

“We’ve got a good lead and a game in hand now but we know that everyone in this league can beat everyone else.

“This was proved by Queen’s Park beating Forfar recently so we know it will be hard but it is in our own hands.”

Andy Halliday and Robbie Winters scored the goals which gunned down the Shire.

Griffin was especially happy to see Winters on the scoresheet after he was the subject of the East Stirlingshire boo boys and boot-boys after being blamed for playing a part in the red card handed to Shire skipper Michael Bolochoweckyj a fortnight ago.

“Andy and Robbie are both flying at the moment and, hopefully, they can keep it going,” continued Griffin.

“It was nice for Robbie to score as a few of their players were trying to kick him after the last game.

“Banging one in the back of the net is the best way of keeping them quiet.”

A fixture backlog means Livingston are scheduled to play a further five games before the end of the month but Griffin reckons that could help the Lions seal the title quickly.

He added: “March will be a quick month for us with a game very Saturday and Tuesday but if we can play the way we did against the Shire then, hopefully, we can keep picking up the points and win the league as quickly as possible.”
