Bowling: West Lothian fail in Scottish bid

WEST LOTHIAN IBC’s latest bid to land Scottish Team Championship has ended early, despite a dominant display by 20-year bowler Calum Logan in the defeat to East Lothian (EL).

Logan played his part in admirable fashion as he turned on the style to beat Les Middler 21-13 in the Singles but EL emerged with a shot margin victory at Midlothian IBC on Sunday.

After Logan’s comfortable win, EL bounced back in spectacular style with Yvonne Veitch and Brian Wyllie in the Pairs. The EL duo blitzed Greg Baldry and Angie Uttley to boost the shot-margin bank with a 27-10 victory.

West Lothian were kept in the picture by a 22-13 win in the Triples, with George Sneddon skipping Carole Clarkson and Davy Wilson to success having wiped out an 11-4 deficit with a run of 3, 1, 1, 1, 3, 4, 2 to lead Cathy Edgar Brian Bissett and Dougie Berwick, 19-11.

East Lothian dominated in the Fours thanks to a 5 at the 10th that stretched the rink of Margaret Rankin Janet Farrell Steven Thomson and James Hogg into a 14-5 lead.

Shot margin would decide the winning team Hogg and Co consolidated EL dominance by inflicting a 26-9 loss on Jenifer Richardson, Jennifer Sneddon, George Marshall and Bryan Cooper.
