County bowlers amongst the honours around the country

BOWLERS from across West Lothian were in stunning form on the greens around the country recently with a host of medals being won by the talented group.

In the Ladies, Amanda Craig won the qualifying tournament at Musselburgh in June while Gillian Donald won the bronze at the same event.

As a result both qualified for the Scottish Lawn Bowling Championships in Aberdeen in September.

Elsewhere in June, Scott Bruce and Danny Masterson reached the finals of the Prestonpans Civic Week Pairs carpet bowls.

This was a real feat for the men as they have not been bowling for long and beat a lot of experienced players before being narrowly defeated in the final.

And finally, a host of county bowlers were in action at Beveridge Park, Kirkcaldy, for the first-ever Inter Area Bowls Test Match.

This event included teams from the Highlands, west of Scotland, Fife and the Lothians.

Unfortunately Lothians weren't successful this time but the squad’s valiant efforts hinted at a more than prosperous future for the county bowling stars.
