Babardie IBC ready to launch latest title bid

BALBARDIE Indoor Bowling Club have a great record in the Scottish Team Championship event having reigned as national champions in season 1993/94 and again in 2006/07.

So it will come as no surprise to county bowling enthusiasts that they are looking forward to another attempt at title glory when they launch their latest campaign this Sunday.

The preliminary round action takes the Bathgate based club to Dalkeith and the Midlothian Indoor Bowling Club where they line up against Border opposition from Tweedbank.

The team championship is a mixed event and the Balbardie spearhead figure is their world stage star Lorraine Malloy in the singles with support in the pairs coming from the sister and brother partnership of Morven and Ewan Shearer.

Jim Speirs skips Shona Hogg and Andy Forrest in the triples while the line up in the fours reads Catherine Shearer (mother) Sharon Leitch Ritchie Templeton and Kenny Martin.

West Lothian IBC have failed to etch their name on the silverware since the events inception in 1985/86 so have much to aim for when hitting the trail against Headwell at Bainfield in their championship clash.

Meanwhile, Willie Duff, the national president from Balbardie, is hopeful that the Scottish Junior International team will deliver him a memorable highlight by capturing the Home International Title this weekend.

Willie will be Scotland’s number one supporter at the series being hosted by Abbeyview, Dunfermline, and there is a local dimension with young West Lothian IBC stars Cameron Greer and Calum Logan parading their skills.

Good luck to all the young bowlers from everyone in the West Lothian area.
