Deans to host WLBA Bowls Championships

DEANS is the venue for the finals of the Winter Jack High Insurance-sponsored traditional WLBA championships tonight, with the top-of-the-bill clash featuring 2001 champion Andrew Dunnett of Queensferry against Roy West of Philpstoun in the Singles.

The semi final action saw Dunnett convert a 10-0 lead into a 21-14 victory over Colin Forrest of Kinneil while West produced a storming finish from 11-15 to beat A Speirs of Blackburn, 21-16.

The battle for the Pairs title will feature Ian Mackie and gold medal bowler Kenny Logan of Buchan Park against Raymond Reid and Neil McLean of Queensferry.

Buchan Park survived extra-end drama to beat Billy Arnott and Diz Drysdale of Bathgate in a 16-15 thriller while Queensferry cashed in on a 14-0 lead to beat Mark and Marten Campbell of Ratho, 20-12.

Buchan Park and Queensferry also clash in the Triples with Ian Thorburn Iain Grant and Billy Irvine going head to head with the Grant clan of Alan, Neil, and Gary.

Irvine skipped his trio to a 20-11 win over Mid Calder while the Grant's stood standfast against Philpstoun to triumph, 17-10.

The Kirkliston banner in the Fours is carried by Ross Logan Gus Henderson David Masterton Jun and Calum Logan against Polbeth challengers Gary Morrison Tom Neilands Gordon Morrison and Charlie Sturrock.

The Cheesetown Boys beat Newbridge 18-12 in their semi while Polbeth edged a 17-16 thriller against Glenmavis.

The final of the Rosebery Cup takes place on Sunday (2pm) and his hosted by WLBA President Raymond Simpson at his Glenmavis Club in Bathgate.
