Lothian golfers go into a Thai break

WEST Lothian golfers enjoyed a taste of the Far East last week at Deer Park’s Thai Golf Day.

Over 130 golfers turned up at Livingston’s Deer Park Golf and Country Club to take part in the four ball event.

The competition was organised by Douglas McCarthy and David McMillan of Bill McCarthy Travel to promote Thailand as a golfing destination for Scottish golfers.

There was a special guest on the day with the Thai Ambassador to the United Kingdom, Kitti Wasinondh, enjoying a round of golf.

Also taking to the fairways was Tourism Authority of Thailand UK and Ireland director Khun Tanes Petsuwan, and other members of TAT.

The winning team on the day was Just Phuket, made up of Bathgate Golf Club members Gordon Nisbet, Callum Nisbet, Jim Cringan and Bill Sharp. They won it with a score of 95.

And Bathgate man Gary Bryce was also celebrating later that night when he won a luxury holiday for 10 days in Thailand, supplied by sponsors Emirates airlines and the TAT.

Gary will stay at the Serene Sands hotel in Banglamung, which is near Pattaya.

Competitors were treated to a beautiful Thai breakfast as well as Thai dancing, massage and a full Thai dinner at night.

Organiser David McMillan was delighted with how the day went.

He said: “It was a totally successful day all round and we are already making plans for next year.

“I would like to say thanks to all the sponsors and participants and Deer Park for handling the day so well.

“We look forward to next year’s event and hope it will be bigger and better, if that is possible.”
