Amateur takes the top spot in a day of excellent scoring in Borders

CARDONA in the Borders was the venue for the latest episode in the East of Scotland Alliance, writes Russell Cameron.

And it was a beautiful day for the players who responded well and made for some excellent scoring.

Top man on the course was amateur Neil Bain of Haddington who produced an excellent net 67 off his five handicap to win the day.

In the scratch ratings there was a three way tie involving Ryan Buckley of Craigielaw, Neil Fenwick of Dunbar and our very own Alan Reid of the West Lothian club.

Alan got himself into the top place tie with a stunning five birdie barrage in an inward nine of 31.

Bain, of course, was best in the handicap section, two ahead of Glenbervie members Derek Fish (1) and Richard Johnston (2).

There was a joint fourth for former Linlithgowshire and Deer Park Champion Mark Chaplin.

In the Orders of Merit the scratch section is led by Mike Thomson of Torwoodlea.

Andy Marshall of Houstoun Driving Range is in fifth position and Deer Park Champion Andy Rothney occupies the eighth slot.

The handicap one is led by Philip Leggate of Musselburgh and there are no West Lothian players to be seen, unusually, in the upper reaches of the rankings.
