Feb 18 2010 West Lothian Courier
THE East of Scotland Alliance members got a good day for their latest event which was held last mid week at Craigielaw in East Lothian.
The conditions were a bit breezy and chilly but the greens were excellent considering the misery of the last few months of the winter.
And to complete the day there was a West Lothian victory in the scratch section in the shape of Greenburn professional Scott Catlin.
The long hitting Scott who won last year's Alliance Championship at Dalmahoy had a final score of 70.
He rounded off with an easy birdie four at the downwind par five last where he covered its 500 odd yards with nothing more than a drive and an eight iron.
Last year was not a great year for Scott but he has been playing well over the winter months and is hoping to do something in the Europro Tour if he can drum up sponsorship for 2010.
Scott was a shot ahead of a trio in joint second comprising Whitekirk's Paul Wardell, Broomieknowe's Stevie Lamb and Tom Buchanan of Duddingston.
And there was a fifth place for the Bo'ness pro Alan Reid on the 72 mark.
The trophy up for grabs on the day, the Tom Galloway, however, fell into amateur hands with the 71-2=69 of Glenbervie's Richard Johnston carrying the day, by a shot from Dunbar's Wilson Morton (4) and Alan Devlin (13) of Pumpherston.
The next event in the Alliance calendar is again in East Lothian, this coming Wednesday, at Dunbar's Winterfield course, so there should be some low scoring if the elements are kind.
