Uphall golfers dominating leadboards at Bathgate

UPHALL have been doing particularly well in county events of late.

Following the 2nd Class County Championship at their own course where there were members occupying the first three places now the club's players have finished in the top four slots in the Linlithgowshire Autumn First Class Handicaps at Bathgate and won the Seniors Fourball at the same venue.

Quite something and perhaps unprecedented.

Top man in the Autumn Handicaps was Stevie Gravestock with a grand 65 off his five mark and this left him two better than his three club-mates.

There were 130 + in the field and CSS stayed the same as SSS on the day at 71.

The Second Class event was due at Shotts on the same day but the rains in the last week put paid to it and it will now not be played.

Prizewinners Bathgate: S Gravestock (Uphall) 70-5=65, S MacBride ( Uphall) 70-3=67, G Jones (Uphall) 75-8=67, D Meldrum (Uphall) 71-4=67, A Rothney (Deer Park) 70-2=68, M Whelan (Bathgate) 78-10=68, R Gillies (Greenburn) 75-7=68.

The Seniors Fourball event had been played a couple of days before and the winning Uphall duo here was A Morrison and W Ferrier with 61 net a shot ahead of runners up JR Callachan and WW Smith of Linlithgow.

Third on a countback was the Deer Park formation of J McIlroy and A Hair ahead of G Kinghorn and R Sneddon of Uphall. They had tied on 63 net.

And still at Bathgate, this time on club business on Sunday, where they got their Summer Competition played after it had been lost earlier in the season.

Top man was Mark Bowes who recorded 84-16=68 despite taking fives at all the par threes on the inward nine. Mark's score was one ahead of a four man pile up comprising Billy Gemmell (15), Andrew Baxter (4), John McLean (5) and Greg Millar (5) in joint second.

Pumpherston's Sassenach Trophy, a stableford event, has been won by Gary Earl with 42 points, one better than second placed G Robb.

Meanwhile at Harburn the latest Labinjoh Qualifier has gone to S Walker (8) after a countback with J Lawson (11).

The players were on 64 net. Third went to A Bathgate (5) who was a shot behind the leaders.

Over at Bo'ness there was a stunning back nine for the winner of the West Lothian club's TintTech Trophy at the weekend.

Fifteen handicapper P Bevis was home in a two over the card 37 to win on a better inward half from DA Henderson (13) after their tie on 69 net.

Just over the hill at Linlithgow there was some equally stunning stuff in their Sunday Medal.

Winner on 60 net was 13 handicap man S Logan owing much to his wonderful finish of 3,2,4 to totally belie his handicap.

Strange to relate, runner-up DW Robertson (9), only a shot behind, managed a three at the 16th as well. Many feel it's the hardest hole on the course.
