THE prestigious Deer Park Masters is fast approaching on the golf horizon with Scotland’s top club professionals set to cross drivers in a bid to land a share of the largest prize fund of any Tartan Tour Ranking event.
The event is returning for the eighth consecutive year over August 2 and 3 where each of the two days will see 50 pros from the order of merit qualifying round taking part each playing with three amateurs in pro-am format.
A full 100 corporate teams are taking part in this year’s tournament for the second year running, which is a considerable achievement by the Masters Marketing Team.
Throughout the recession the Masters has continued to flourish and is a calendar highlight for many companies such as Rippin Steel (silver sponsors), Belhaven, Valad, Scotia Timber and KPMG who take part each year.
Deer Park Golf and Country Club General Manager John Douglas said: “We relish looking after people well here at Deer Park and will have round the clock catering on hand for the participants and spectators – there will also be two prize giving ceremonies each day.
“I am sure that the kudos of Masters Champion will be as appealing as ever for many of our pro’s who compete every year. Craig Lee for example has now won the Masters three times already – and last year’s winner David Patrick from Elie club was very special to the Muir family, representing the East Neuk of Fife where they themselves are from.
“The Deer Park Masters has become one of the best supported events on the Scottish PGA calendar.”
Muir Group chairman John Muir added: “The Golf Professionals of Scotland are the very lifeblood of the sport and provide support and encouragement to all of us who enjoy the game at an amateur level.
“Events such as the Masters provide them with financial support and enable amateurs to play with them at a competitive level, which is highly enjoyable for everyone concerned.
“The amateurs competing with the pros in teams is always a highlight of the tournament. I am confident the whole event will be enjoyable for both sponsors and the professionals .”
