Ladies’ six of the best

LIVINGSTON Ladies first team pulled off a sensational 6-0 win again Edinburgh Hockey Club’s Cala team on Saturday.

From the first whistle Livingston’s training-ground tactics proved too difficult for the opposition.

Defensively Livingston showed no way through for the Edinburgh team.

Yet again they were led from the back by team captain Fiona Lynch and a solid performance by Lynn Young left the visitors wondering how they could get through.

Fiona Oliver, with only two real saves to make, proved her worth and skill by stretching for what seemed destined to be a goal and knocking it away with the end of her stick.

A short corner from Lisa Paterson started the succession of goals with Lorna Jenkins also striking an outstanding rebound from another short. The third came from an own goal going in from Cala’s failed defensive clearance.

Livingston went into the second half fairly positively but still aware that the young opposition were still not out of it.

They increased their lead with another training-ground piece of magic, Jenkins taking a free-hit from outside the circle. She struck the ball to Trish Maine who slotted in a goal past the keeper.

Still the goals came with Sue Sloan making the most of another defensive error by collecting the rebound and firing it into the goal mouth.

The final goal came from another great move. This time a quickly taken free-hit from Patsy Gallagher up the right wing found Paterson who drove the ball all the way up Cala’s half to get a final goal and put the icing on a very well deserved victory.

It was a great team performance from back to front.

Midfield had a hard job and stood up to the task with Jenkins and Gallagher running the opposition ragged and junior member Kerry Priesly not allowing her player an inch to play her game and causing Cala’s captain total frustration.

The team hope this positive gameplay will carry on thorough out the season. This weekend’s game is again Kelso in Gala.
