Y-Cats strut like veterans on Tayside despite novice status

AN all-new hip-hop/cheer squad have roared on to the county scene.

The West Lothian Y-Cats were formed in June and earlier this month entered their first competitions.

Many of the girls were novices and their progress in a such a short space of time has been remarkable.

Their competitive debut came on Tayside as the girls travelled to Dundee on Sunday, November 9.

And despite their inexperience at this level the girls placed well.

In the duets category, Jenna McWilliams and Amy Waddell finished fifth out of nine.

The Y-Cats also came fifth out of six in the Senior Hip Hop category, sixth out of eight in Junior Cheer Dance, and finally a creditable sixth from 11 in the Senior Cheer Dance section.

Head coach Stacy Matthews (whose first name spelt backwards gives the group its name) was thrilled with the outcome.

She said: ““I am so proud of each and every girl who went along and danced their hearts out.

“I’d also like to say a huge thanks to all our loyal supporters who came along to cheer us on.

“Our hard work will still continue as we’re hoping to do even better with competitions next year.”

Classes are held in Pumpherston and Uphall and for more information see www.Y-Cats.co.uk
