Fishing: Bangour provides regular catch before hibernation

FISHING on Bangour Trout Fishery in November proved to be consistent, with limit bags being taken regularly.

Everything from lures down deep, lures mid water, buzzers, diawl bachs and dries have been successful, with a surprising number of fish rising freely.

The top lures have been dancers, damsels, minkies and zonkers, mostly in green, black, white and yellow colours.

There have also been plenty of fish taken on traditionals, with the pick of the bunch being bibios and Kate McLarens, fished in the top foot of water.

The best fish so far this month were: A Skirling — 17lbs 8oz; S Murphy — 17lbs 4oz; and G Paris — 11lb.

Last weekend was the final weekend of the season and with it the end-of-season competition.

There was an excellent turnout and results are as follows: first place — R Watson of Addiewell, four at 19lbs 12oz and four catch-and-release.

This gave an impressive total of 27lbs 12oz.

Second place — A Weir of Bathgate, four at 13lbs 12oz and six catch-and-release. This gave a total of 25lbs 12oz.

Third place — T Pryde of Winchburgh, four at 14lbs 12oz and four catch-and-release, giving a total of 22lbs 2oz.

The heaviest fish was landed by J Payne of Tullibody with a superb 12lb 8oz blue.

The competition had 28 anglers who caught a mammoth 99 fish with an average weight of 3lbs 9oz.

The big fish board this month showed 38 fish between 5lb and 17lbs 8oz, with a healthy average weight of 3lb 8oz.

The fishery is now closed until March.

Thank you to all the customers who visited Bangour in the 2008 season and they hope to see you all again next year.
