Pupils thrilled by Rocks stars’ visit

SCOTLAND’S only professional basketball team were in West Lothian last week passing on their hints and tips of the hardwood to school pupils across the county.

The Scottish Rocks, who currently sit top of the championship, were visiting schools in West Lothian to encourage youngsters to ‘Jump2it’ for a healthier future and possibly reach the finals of a national sports contest.

All the top stars of the Rocks took it in turn to speak to pupils about healthy lifestyles, as well as coaching the youngsters in basketball.

Balbairdie Primary School was one of eight schools that the Rocks dropped in to see in the county, where as well as encouraging children to get active by introducing them to basketball, the Jump2it roadshow also focused on the importance of fitness, healthy eating, and the dangers of smoking and drug and alcohol abuse.

These issues were tackled in an entertaining and interactive manner with Scottish Rocks players delivering the initial content in the schools.

Mrs Ford, Headteacher of Balbardie Primary, said: “The boys and girls really enjoyed meeting the Scottish Rocks’ players, and having fun playing basketball, while also learning about the importance of looking after their bodies.”

Scottish Rocks Head Coach, Sterling Davis added: “We are delighted to be rolling out the Jump2it programme to kids from across West Lothian and giving them a chance to experience the amazing fun that can be had through basketball.”
