Badminton: Smashing success for the pupils

BADMINTON starlets from St Mary's Primary School in Bathgate were in competitive action last month when the school crossed racquets with rivals from other nearby schools in the West Lothian Primary Schools' Badminton Championships.

Kieran Young, Rebecca Innes, Austin Storrie, Rohan Ferguson, Clare Green and Abbie Moran all took part in the event which was a great success for the Bathgate school.

Kieran and Rohan were semi finalists in the Boy's event, Clare was a semi finalist in the Girls' event and Clare and Abbie were runners up in the final of the Girls' doubles.

Abbie was also crowned the overall girls' winner repeating her successes in 2007 and 2008.

She is currently ranked No 2 in Scotland in the under 12 age group and is Scottish National Girls' Double Champion with her partner Julie MacPherson.
