WEST Calder’s Allandale Tarn Fishery has had some mixed days fishing due to the variable weather over the past month.
This has meant that occasionally a sinking line has been favoured by the anglers over the usual floating.
The best fly's on the stormy days have been Hot Head Damsels, an Olive Fritz or even a largerŠ bushy dry fly on a floating lineŠ such as Sedge or hopper to bounce along during the sunnier spells bringing up many of the larger beasties.
Best Buzzers remain the Black and Silver, catching about two and half feet on average during the warmer periods.
This was testified by regular Brian Pender who landed 15 in a single day on it and missed as many more due to the winds.
Allandale is now open until 10.30pm while Dry Fly's and Nymphs are recommended for the last few hours till dusk.
Meanwhile, Selmuir Trout Fishery opened its shores again last weekend with the lure of promises of quality hard fighting trout from two to eight pounds.
The Fishery, which is fly fishing only, have a host of various prices available for anglers while it is also set in a forest setting and is only five minutes from Livingston.
