Angling: Merry May enjoyed at Beecraigs Loch

MAY on Beecraigs Loch proved to be an excellent month for angling and a lot of good quality fish were been caught.

Weatherwise the first half of the month was wet and windy and the second half was very bright with a few flat calms for the anglers to contend with.

However in spite of the conditions anglers enjoyed some great sport and many limit baskets have been taken.

Abe Seivwright and Jim Schroeder had a fine day's fishing and came in with 10 rainbows for 26lbs 13ozs. Abe had a fine fish weighing in at 6lbs 8ozs.

Peter Ward and David Naysmith enjoyed a late May Day session and weighed in 10 for 26lbs 8ozs all on the nomad.

Regular visitors Jimmy Lowe and Paul Costello from Fife fished a pink booby to great effect and took 10 for 25lbs 11ozs.

Clubs also enjoyed a series of field days given the right conditions and many limits have been recorded.

Perth AC fished an evening session and came in with 58 fish for 133lbs 15ozs for their six boats.

The Union and Crown AC had the perfect result of 40 fish for 92lbs 13ozs for four boats and on the same day Mayfly AC took 39 fish for four boats.

Fish of the Month goes to Ian Linton from Kirkcaldy for a specimen rainbow of 10lbs 4ozs caught on an orange damsel.

Mr Linton wins for himself a £50 tackle voucher courtesy of our sponsors for May, Almond Cleaning Services of Livingston.

June is now upon us and the loch is fishing very well indeed.

The fish are feeding on buzzers both during the day and into the evenings. Suitable patterns should include epoxy buzzers, snatcher, hare's ear, and small dark wets like black pennel and the bibio.

Fishery staff are on hand to offer advice and tactics for the day. Some permits are still available for June, bookings and enquiries to the Park Centre on 01506 844516.
