BARRY Ferguson and David Weir may have lifted the Homecoming Scottish Cup in May but it is doubtful it meant as much to the Rangers pair as another Scottish Cup triumph earlier that same month.
Cameron Young from East Calder got his hands on the S1 Schools Scottish Cup after his side Tynecastle FC Boys Club beat Albion Boys Club 2-0 at the Excelsior Stadium, Airdrie.
The 12-year-old West Calder High School pupil impressed with a composed ball playing display from centre midfield which also earned him the prize of best midfielder on the day.
Schools Scottish Cup sponsor Tesco also whisked the winners across the border for a special tournament at the Reebok Stadium, home of English Premiership stars Bolton, against the winners from the English, Welsh and Irish equivalents.
And Cameron admits he had the time of his life in a dressing room which normally houses international stars.
“We were allocated the home dressing room at the Reebok and I personally got to use the changing area of striker Kevin Davies,” said Cameron.
“It was brilliant and although we lost 1-0 to the Welsh champions it was one of the best experiences ever.”
The Scottish Cup triumph and 90 minutes following in the studmarks of the likes of Jay Jay Okocha at the Reebok comes at the end of a stunning debut season for Cameron in which he helped Tynecastle Boys Club to a quintuple of trophies.
He also brought another honour home to the Young mantlepiece in Bathgate after being crowned West Calder High School player of the year. His school were also very unlucky to lose the league play off to Armadale last week.
Next on the football horizon for Cameron is an international tournament where he will be pulling on the dark blue of Scotland at under 13 level as he plays in the Gothia Cup in Sweden.
