Speedway: Welsh side come calling to Armadale Stadium

THE Scotwaste Monarchs are back in action this weekend with a visit from the Newport Wasps to Armadale Stadium this Friday at 7.30pm.

It is the first time for two years that the Welsh side have come to Armadale as they were forced out of the sport early last season when their promoter Tim Stone sadly died.

Now they are under new management and have some handy riders like Aussie Mark Lemon, English prospect Jordan Frampton and veterans Paul Friday and Brent Werner.

Also this weekend Monarchs travel down on Saturday to Rye House where the Rockets are always hard to beat.

After a week off for the British Grand Prix at the Millennium Stadium Cardiff, the Armadale side will be keen to get back to winning ways.

The first three weekends of July all feature home and away league matches with title favourites King’s Lynn due to visit the home of the champions — the Monarchs — on Friday, July 2.

Ryan Fisher has certainly been keeping busy with a second place in the Welsh Open and an Elite League outing for Swindon on Sky TV, plus of course a brave effort in conjunction with Andrew Tully in the Premier League pairs on Grand Prix eve last Friday.

Fisher and Tully didn’t quite make the semi-finals in the meeting at Somerset but they gave a good account of themselves, especially Bathgate boy Tully with nine points in his first outing in a PL major event.

Teams for Friday (riding order):

Scotwaste Monarchs: Ryan Fisher, rider replacement for Thomas H Jonasson, Michal Rajkowski, Andrew Tully, Matthew Wethers (captain), Aaron Summers, Sean Stoddart.

Newport Wasps: Mark Lemon (captain), Paul Fry, Brent Werner, Chris Kerr, Jordan Frampton, Shelby Rutherford, James Holder.
