Martial Arts: Young Lewis stuns instructors with win

AN East Calder youngster has stunned his family and friends and even instructors at Craigswood Sports Centre by romping to glory in only his second Muay Thai contest.

Lewis McGonical who is just seven-years-old has only been a Muay Thai student for 18 months but in that time he has progressed leaps and bounds under the watchful eye and tuition of instructor Bobby Thompson at Craigswood Sports Centre.

In what was just his second fight Lewis controlled the contest, showing no signs of nerves and was awarded a unanimous decision.

The three round bout was part of a Paul Hamilton Show in the Dolphin Center, Darlington, and Lewis’ starring show was witnessed by representatives from The Scottish Muay Thai council, led by Senior Instructor John Craig who kept a keen eye on both the junior and senior sections of the show.

Muay Thai Superstar Dzhabar Askerov from Russia made a special appearance at the show where Lewis looks to have announced his arrival on the scene

The East Calder youngster is now eyeing up his next grading but his stellar showing in Doncaster can only help his progress.
