Hockey: A point on the board at third time of asking

THE curtain has gone up on another season for Livingston and West Lothian Hockey Club with the county team already in the thick of the action.

The Livingston side were the first back on court when the Men’s Regional League Central Division Two began in mid-September.

Unfortunately their first two games saw them slip to defeat against Alpha Data Carnegie II and East Kilbride Avondale.

Their third game, however, was a strongly fought one against Waverley Inveresk Trinity II away from home which ended in a 1-1 draw with Derek Brown netting the Livi goal.

In the Ladies section of the club, there are two teams competing in the East District Leagues, one in the Premier Division and one in Division Three. The Ladies First’s started their season with a strongly fought home win against George Heriot’s, coming out 2-1 with goals from Patsy Gallagher and Trisha Main, both from penalty corners in the first half.

Heriot’s fought back strongly in the second half, scoring a goal to ensure a nervy finish but despite asking questions of the stubborn Livi defence, it wasn’t enough to take the game.

The second league game for the Ladies Firsts saw them come face-to-face with their West Lothian rivals, Linlithgow Hockey Club.

In a fiercely fought match at Linlithgow Academy, Livingston came out tops, winning 2-0 with both goals coming from Patsy Gallagher.

Both teams had to compete hard against the harsh weather with winds blowing hard across the pitch.

Livingston and West Lothian Hockey Club have West Lothian Council Accreditation Level 1 and would be pleased to welcome any new players interested in playing hockey to come along to training at Inveralmond Community High School in Livingston on a Wednesday night between 7.30-9.30pm.
