Karate: Kids make the grade with some excellent displays

IT has been a couple of busy months for the students of Armadale Ultimate Tae Kwon-do with some of the coloured belt students taking part in the last of the three Interclub Goodwill Tournaments of the year.

Between them, the students won a total of three gold, 16 silver and 23 bronze medals and trophies.

Caitlin Skippins, Kyro Prentice, Latisha Lamont and Nicole Furness have also been awarded an overall bronze award for their excellent performance in the three interclub championships held throughout the year.

Armadale and Bathgate instructors Liz McKenna and Julie Scott also attended the Imperial British Championships in Reading at which they both won bronze in the fourth and fifth degree patterns sections.

The ladies were unfortunately pipped to the post by one point in their respective semi-final sparring matches and had to settle for bronze but Liz went on to take gold in the ladies female power test.

There was also a recent black belt grading at which 12-year-olds Duncan MacLennan and Danielle Skippins were promoted to first degree blackbelt. Duncan joins his mum and dad in the rank of black belt.

There were other black belt promotions with Bruce and Desiree MacLennan being promoted to first degree level three, gearing up to undertake their second degree black belt next year.

Pamela Gow was also promoted to second degree level two and Allan McLeish promoted to first degree level one.

The class currently trains on a Monday and Friday and the club welcomes beginners of all ages and fitness levels. Phone 01501 732469 or e-mail dbrowntkd@aol.com
