Skating: Lana looks set to figure in British championships

A LIVINGSTON figure skater will compete in the British Figure Skating Championships in Sheffield next week and is certainly one of the favourites to win at Novice Ladies after a very successful season.

Lana Bagan, 13, became a member of the Great Britain Development Squad earlier this year and represented Great Britain in her first international competition at the Gardena Trophy in Italy where she placed 15th in Novice Ladies.

She recently represented Great Britain at the Tirnavia Cup in Slovakia and placed second in Novice Ladies — scoring her personal best score — which also enabled her pass marks at junior and senior level, a fantastic achievement.

Throughout the year Lana competed at two IJS Championships, one in Sheffield and one in Wales she placed second in both at Novice Ladies.

Lana also competed in various Open Competitions in Wales, Hull, Ayr, and Dundee at Level nine Ladies where finished first on one occasion and second on three occasions.

Lana attends Edinburgh Academy and trains five to six days a week.

Her main coach is Leanne Mullen of Olympia Figure Skating Club and she travels to East Kilbride to train there.

She also trains at Murrayfield ice rink in Edinburgh with Alice Fells.

Her coaches say she is very dedicated and are sure all her hard work will pay off in November.
