ALLANDALE Tarn Fisheries were in competitive action last weekend when they crossed rods with a team from Howwood in the second leg of their Winter League match.
Despite the cold, calm and misty weather, home team Allandale finished with 34 fish, weighing in at 95lb 4oz.
But that wasn’t enough to pick up the win as Howwood hammered their hosts with 52 fish landed, weighing in at a whopping 131lb 14oz.
Derek Hawthorne was in sparkling form to land several fish on a size 12 shuttlecock Yellow Owl CDC, including a beast over 3ft long and estimated at over 15lbs.
Despite the alternating conditions fish tended to remain largely in the top two-and-half feet of water.
Allandale Tarns “A Guid New Year”, competition has been confirmed for January 3 and more information on this and all forthcoming events is available on the competitions pages at www.allandaletarn.com or by ringing 01506 873073.
Looking ahead to next year, Allandale Tarn have been asked to host a charity angling competition by local angler Tam McGreggor in aid of Glasgow’s Ronald McDonald House and Yorkhill Children’s Hospital, scheduled for April 11.
