Wrestling: New Japan Pro star coming to West Lothian

WRESTLING fans in West Lothian are in for a Royal treat when Japanese based superstar Prince Devitt arrives next weekend.

Devitt, also known as Fergal Devitt and the Pegasus Kid II, is one of fastest rising stars in the Far East where he wrestles for New Japan Pro Wrestling.

But West Lothian grapple fans will get to see the high-flyer in his only UK appearance when he steps into the SSW ring at Redemption next week.

The latest slice of SSW action is coming to Whitburn Academy on Friday, December 11, with a mouth-watering card of title matches and grudge battles already confirmed.

The SSW World’s title, the SPWO UK title and the Tag Team titles will all be on the line but all eyes will be on the appearance of the exciting Devitt who is sure to steal the show.

Irish-born Devitt is a two time NWA British Commonwealth Heavyweight Champion and he has held the IWGP Junior Heavyweight Tag Team Championship three times with Minoru [3] and Ryusuke Taguchi.

But now he is determined on making an impact on the SSW where he will step between the ropes with the muscle bound Johnny Moss.

It is sure to be a thrilling match with the contrasting styles of the acrobatic Devitt and the powerhouse Moss.

Elsewhere on the bill, SSW newboy Falcon has the SPWO UK Title firmly in his sights but to win the prized gold he will have to best current champion BT Gunn and fans favourite Ron Jeremi in a triple threat match with all three in the ring at once.

The first to score a pinfall or submission will be crowned champion and this type of match doesn’t favour the champ as he doesn’t have to be involved in the finish to lose the strap.

Also on the line in three-way action is the big belt as champ Muzlem puts his SSW World’s Title up for grabs against both Wolfgang and former champ Chris Bang.

Muzlem is no stranger to the dangers and bone crunching aspects of triple threat action as he defended the SPWO UK Title at Redemption 2006 in a TLC deathmatch against both Ron Jeremi and Dark Angel.

This time round though there is more at stake with the top prize in SSW on the line.

Wolfgang, who will be accompanied to the ring by his valet Candi Kiss, won his spot in the match by winning the 2009 Rumble and he is heavily favoured to take the gold.

He is garnering a reputation as one of the best wrestlers in the entire UK but should he win the gold he will make history as the first outside talent to hold the SSW’s main title.

Fellow challenger Chris Bang was awarded his place in the bout after pointing out to the SSW board he was due a rematch having not invoked his rematch clause after dropping the belt to Ben N Jeremi at the Road to Wrestlewars in May.

The tag-team gold is also set to be defended in a triple threat battle with champs Team Starr set to square off against Rage N Storm and Britains Most Wanted (BMW).

BMW go into the bout buoyed by a non-title win over the champs at the recent Superclash show but with the destructive Rage N Storm involved this bout could go any way.

Kevin Brudaker faces a gruelling series of his own as he attempts to be crowned King of the Bing.

After being passed up for a title shot he has vowed to make everyone sit up and take notice by going through three men, one after another in the SSW ring.

If he can see off all three challengers and have his arm raised in the middle of the ring afterwards then he will shoot straight to the top of the title contenders list and his wish for a title shot would be granted in the New Year.

There will be an SSW debut for ‘Bad Boy’ Liam Thompson as well against the up and coming Steven Xavier.

Both are extremely talented young wrestlers and this could be a bout to steal match of the night.

If all this isn’t enough then Redemption is also bringing fans the biggest ever women's match in the history of the organisation.

Nikki Storm and Carmel Jacobs will be in action in the ring in what SSW bosses reckon will signal the arrival of the women's division in the SSW forever.

A women's SSW Title is in the works and will be up for grabs next year so both Jacobs and Storm will be keen to impress and keep themselves in contention when the championship is introduced.

Also confirmed for the supershow is the self proclaimed manager of champions, Charles Boddington.

Current WWE stars Sheamus and Drew McIntyre have both had Boddington in their corner but who does he have in his sights next to groom for stardom?

Weeks after quitting his role as General Manager, the 300lb Dark Angel will be at Redemption for a special appearance while cruiserweight Chris Rampage will also be involved in the show.

Fellow cruiserweight Bubblegum will also be showcasing his high-flying daredevil manoeuvres while Scottish hardcore hero ‘Highlander’ Colin McKay will bring his own very different — and brutal — form of wrestling to Redemption.

McKay has publicly announced his disdain for the scrawny looks of several of the SSW wrestlers who he reckons are ‘diva like’ and he has pledged to rid the organisation of them.

Redemption promises to be a show to remember for both the grapplers and fans of SSW with Whitburn Academy set to host what could well be the biggest show of 2009.

Doors open on the show at 6.30 with the first bout scheduled for 7pm.
