Monarchs raring to go as new Speedway season approaches

Monarchs

THE Scotwaste Monarchs will race at the Armadale Stadium for the fourteenth and final season this year but the speedway stars have vowed to go out with a bang.

The Monarchs have been a popular addition to the West Lothian sporting calendar and they have expressed their intention to remain in the county.

The club unveiled their squad for the upcoming season at the weekend which they hope will steer them to further silverware.

Matthew Wethers has been confirmed as captain for the second year in a row and the club legend is hoping to add to his two league winners’ medals which he has earned in his eight seasons riding for the county club.

Joining him on the Monarchs frontline are Ryan Fisher, Kevin Wolbert, Andrew Tully, Jozsef Tabaka, Max Dilger and Kalle Katajisto.

The engines will roar for the new speedway season on Friday with the restaging of the Scottish Open Championship, rained off during the very wet summer last year.

The team is first in action a week later, Friday March 26, when the Glasgow Tigers come visiting in the traditional season curtain-raiser, the Spring Trophy.

Club chairman Alex Harkess said: “We have an exciting young team this season and after many years of moderate success we now have a winning nature at the club.

“We want to win but we also want to entertain and give our supporters a great night out.

“I’m hoping for winning and entertainment in equal measures in 2010.”
