Lothian Running Club round-up

LOTHIAN Running Club fielded four full teams and one incomplete team at the annual Scottish Athletics Road Relay Championships at Livingston on Saturday where the ladies’ B were the highest-placed finishers.

The baton was next passed onto Louise Crilley to run leg three. She improved a place by claiming 9th before the final leg was run by Edel Mooney – the only survivor of the quartet who took silver medals 12 months ago. Edel produced a good run to haul the team up to a creditable finishing position of seventh.

Meanwhile Lothian Running Club's Sarah Inglis completed a successful weekend competing at the Isle of Man Easter Athletics Festival by emerging as the overall women's champion, and to put the icing on the cake her Edinburgh University Hare and Hounds women's team were also crowned winners of the overall team prize.

The festival, which has become a traditional event for university teams from all over Great Britain, takes the format of three races: a 10k, a Hill Race and a 5k.

Sarah got off to a good start with victory in the 10k on Friday night. She covered the course, which was based around Port Erin and Port St Mary, in 35 minutes 56 seconds.

She followed up her 10k win with victory in the Peel three-mile Hill Race on Saturday afternoon.

Sarah led home a field of 54 runners in a time of 17 minutes 53 seconds, 8 seconds clear of hill specialist Sula Young, Hunters Bog Trotters, with last year’s overall female winner Emma Raven, Leeds University, back in third.

The third and final race in the series was a 5k along Douglas Promenade on the Sunday morning.

On this occasion the Lothian runner had to settle for second place.
