Fauldhouse boxer Robbie McKee willing to step into the ring with any Scottish amateurs

ROBBIE McKEE has vowed to take on all-comers in a bid to ram his critics’ words down their throats.

The 18-year-old has issued a war cry to all Scottish 64kg amateur boxers after reading comments on Facebook that he had lost his edge and was not the same fighter who won the Scottish and British championships and a medal at the Commonwealth Youth Games.

The Fauldhouse Boxing Club starlet is eyeing up a bout with current Scottish Champion Jason Easton but admits that he’ll happy put his plans to one side to prove his critics wrong.

He said: “I’ve heard people have been talking about me, saying I’m not progressing, that I’m going backwards, so I’d like to call any 64kg boxers who want to step into the ring with me to get in touch.

“Ideally my next match will be against the current Scottish Champion Jason Easton but so far he has repeatedly refused to step between the ropes with me.

“The last time I boxed him, I stopped him in the third round on route to winning the Scottish title myself.

“But this year, I had to withdraw from the Scottish through injury. I’d won the first match with one hand after damaging it but Pat (Toner) withdrew me before the second bout.”

McKee is hoping to clinch a place in the Scottish Commonwealth squad for the Delhi Games later this year but it could come down to an elimination bout against Easton.

His coach, Pat Toner, explained: “We could apply to the Boxing Council and ask for a box-off if Easton is selected as Scottish Champ and McKee is not, as they are Scotland’s top two fighters in their weight class.”
