Lothian Runners contest series of hill runs

ATHLETES from Lothian Running Club members were out and about at the weekend competing in events up and down the country with mixed results.

With the hill running season now well underway, the club were represented at three different events.

Five Club members contested the Hunter Bog Trot Hill Race 6.4km/240m at Salisbury Crags, Edinburgh on Saturday.

Jocelyn Moar produced a fine run to finish 36th overall and fourth female in a time of 37 minutes 20 seconds.

First club male over the finish line was Brian Reid 39m35s, he was closely followed by 53rd Mike Liebermann 41m30s and Kate Kitchin 57th and ninth female 42m05s.

Making up the club representation was Jill Horsburgh, who came home in 66th and second FSV in a time of 43m20s. A total of 86 runners completed.

Over 80 runners contested the Clachnaben Hill Race at Strachan, with Tosh Brannan the only Lothian Club member in the line up.

Tosh completed the gruelling event in 1h52m02s, which placed him 32th overall and fifth MSV.

And a trio of Lothian Club members were in the starting line up for the inaugural Meall nan Tarmachan Hill Race (9.5km/700m).

David Berrill covered the course in 1h1m33s to place 15th.

Next home was John Malcolm in 26th spot with Herbie McLean 33rd and second MV60.

There was a record entry of runners for the Edinburgh Half Marathon on Sunday which started at Meadowbank Stadium and finished at Musselburgh Racecourse.

The club’s Scott Balfour produced an excellent run to finish 42nd overall and first in the M60 category.

Not far behind in 53rd was Scott Nelson who recorded a new PB for the distance. Marie Storrie was the club's first female finisher.

Four Lothian Running Club members were among a total field of 162 that contested Saturday's Edinburgh Park Run.

Steven Laurie, who was making his debut at the event, turned in a fine performance in finishing in ninth place covering the 5k course along a windy Edinburgh waterfront in 18m57s

Harry Mulholland was a couple of places and nine seconds behind in 19m6s with race regular Lana Turnbull 35th overall and third female in 21m19s.

There was a PB for Mike Turnbull who came home in 32m42s.
