Lothian Running club athletes take to track and fields

LOTHIAN Running Club athletes were out in force again this weekend with their runners enjoying a varied degree of success.

Making his first appearance at the recently inaugurated Strathclyde Parkrun, Brian Turner emerged a comfortable winner.

Brian covered the 5k course within Strathclyde Country Park in 16 minutes 50 seconds which was 48 seconds quicker than his nearest pursuer.

Eighty-one runners contested the race.

This was the fifth running of the race and Brian's time was the fourth quickest to date.

Elsewhere, Tosh Brannan was the first of three Lothian Running Club athletes to complete the Ben Lomond Hill Race on Saturday.

Tosh finished in 106th place covering the 12k/970m course in 1 hour 37 minutes 49 seconds.

He was followed home by MV60 vet Herbie McLean in 1:41.52.

Four places behind in 126th came John Malcolm in 1:43.41.

In all 196 runners completed.

On the same day, Lothian Running Club's Chloe Cox and Jocelyn Moar finished second and fifth female's at the Penicuik 10k race.

Chloe, who was 36th overall of the 184 finishers, completed the course in 41 minutes 11 seconds with Jocelyn 51st overall in 42:44.

Brian Reid and Ian Hall were the club's male representatives, Brian crossed the finish line in 44:58 for 73rd place with Ian 134th in 52:42.

Half a dozen Lothian Running Club members contested the Edinburgh Parkrun on Saturday.

Kenton Jones who was making his race debut was the first club runner home covering the 5k along the windy waterfront in 19 minutes 47 seconds which placed him in 20th place.

Kenton was followed home by Saran Jones in 43rd place overall and fifth female, Saran's time of 21:35 was 8 seconds outside her PB for the course.

Less than a minute behind in 22:21 was Jill Horsburgh who was 54th overall and 7th female.

Club vet Ted Finch was 90th in 25:45.

The final two club runners were Juniors Sam Jones and Alice Horsburgh, Sam who was making his race debut was 97th in 26:29 with Alice three places further back in 100th in 26:37.

A total of 144 runners contested this weeks race.
