LOTHIAN Running Club triplets Robert, Sarah and Mhairi Inglis, made farewell appearances in the National Junior League on Sunday at Scotstoun Stadium in Glasgow.
The 18-year-olds, who first represented the composite Forth Valley team back in 2006, will be too old for next year’s competition, which is for under-20 athletes from all over Britain.
Sarah bowed out on a winning note with victory in the Women’s A 3000metres, while Mhairi placed sixth in the Women’s A 400m.
Robert, meanwhile, finished fifth in the Men’s 1500m B event.
Amanda Campbell, of Livingston AC, gained full points with victory in the Women’s 800m A race.
Lothian Running Club members enjoyed another successful weekend on the Highland Games circuit, competing at Airth on Saturday and St Andrews on Sunday.
At the Airth Games Alan Stewart from Blackburn landed the day’s top prize by racing to victory in the 90m Open Handicap.
Running from a start of 24m, Alan, who finished runner-up at the recent Loch Lomond Games, broke the tape in 9.23 seconds.
Alan’s father John, from Armadale, also made the final, and finished in sixth place.
Mhairi Inglis enjoyed her best day on the circuit this summer at Airth, finishing in third place in both the 800m and 1600m handicaps. On both occasions she finished ahead of her brother Robert, who crossed the finish line in sixth and fourth places respectively.
Robert gained revenge in the 3200m Handicap when he finished runner-up, with Mhairi in fourth.
To round of a good afternoon Mhairi also made the winning relay team.
Darren Thomson (Bathgate) has shown consistency all season and maintained his fine run of form with a second place in the Open 400m handicap, being beaten by a whisker.
Hannah Stewart (Blackburn) turned in another fine performance to finish runner-up in the Youth’s 1600m Handicap.
The following day at the St Andrews Games, which are held in the shadow of the Old Course Hotel, Nicola again reached the 90m final, this time finishing in sixth place.
Later in the afternoon she came home third in the final of the Youth’s 200m Handicap.
Hannah Stewart was also among the prizes at the Fife venue with a third place in the Youth’s 800m Handicap.
The season continues on Sunday with the Montrose Highland Games at the East Links.
Meanwhile, Lothian Running Club’s ladies team beat their male counterparts at the Round Arran Relay Race at the weekend.
